7.) Usage in General
Selecting a VENICE server
To connect the VENICE RUI to a VENICE server you have to type in the IP address
of the VENICE server. The client where the VENICE RUI is running must have a
proper network connection.
Connecting to the server by selecting a video channel
To actually connect to the selected server press one of the available channel
buttons. Then the server will be contacted and the respective channel will be
requested. When the selected channel is not occupied by another VENICE RUI, it
will be allocated and ready for use. However, after finishing the capture or play-out
tasks it is important to either deselect the video channel button or close the RUI to
free the channel for other users.
Ingest and play-out mode
VENICE provides two main operation modes: The ingest mode and the play-out
mode. Each video channel can be used in either one of these modes. The operation
mode can be selected with the item directly below the video overlay and its
scrub/shuttle bar.
or
VENICE and VTR (RS-422 device)
In the VENICE RUI there are control elements for VENICE itself and for a RS-422
device like a VTR. You can switch between the control elements for VENICE and
the RS-422 device with tabs in the user interface. In the ingest mode the RS-422
device is called player and in play-out mode it is called recorder.
To delete in- or outpoints or the duration the button
has to be pressed followed
by pressing the IN, OUT or DUR button. For this there are also shortcuts available.
Defining a path for ingest or play-out
Normally, to determine the path for a capturing or play-out the browse button on the
right side has to be clicked. For recording or playing out you must select either the
local drives of VENICE or a storage directly connected to VENICE (e.g. SpycerBox,
DVS-SAN, etc.). If it is not a volume controlled by VENICE, the record button will be
greyed out.
In play-out mode the drag ‘n’ drop of a clip from Spycer into the VENICE RUI can
also be used to load a clip. Again, this clip must come from the storage of VENICE
or an attached volume to VENICE. When loading a DNxHD clip via the browse
button, the combined audio channels will be loaded as well.
In ingest mode the path for capturing a clip with VENICE can be easily defined by
dragging and dropping a folder structure from Spycer into the VENICE RUI. The file
name has to be typed in in addition and has to be confirmed by pressing [Enter].
